DrivianTelematics SDK Overview

The DrivianTelematics SDK provides a unified solution for collecting, processing, and delivering driving telemetry data across iOS, Android, React Native, and Expo applications.

The SDK is designed to run reliably in real-world conditions, handling continuous location tracking, motion data, background execution, and system interruptions while maintaining consistency and data integrity. Its primary goal is to allow applications to integrate driving telemetry with minimal business logic on the client side, while respecting the constraints and behavior of each mobile platform.

Account and access

Using the SDK requires a valid account and credentials.

Registration, project setup, and credential management are handled through the DrivianTelematics platform, available outside this documentation. Once registered, the platform provides the access details required to integrate and authenticate the SDK as described in the following guides.

Platforms

The SDK is available in three forms:

  • iOS SDK — a native framework for iOS applications
  • Android SDK — a native library for Android applications
  • React Native & Expo SDK — React Native and Expo modules that integrate both native SDKs and expose the same unified JavaScript API

Each platform implementation follows the same conceptual model, but respects the native operating system rules for permissions, background execution, and lifecycle management.

The React Native & Expo SDK does not reimplement telemetry logic. It acts as a thin layer that forwards functionality and events from the underlying native SDKs.

What the SDK provides

At a high level, the SDK handles:

  • Continuous driving telemetry collection
  • Location and motion sensor management
  • Background execution and recovery after interruptions
  • Permission validation and permission-change detection
  • Reliable data delivery, including recovery of pending dat

The SDK abstracts complex platform-specific behavior while still exposing enough signals for the application to react to permission changes, interruptions, and data gaps.

Integration model

This documentation focuses on how to integrate the SDK into your application, configure platform requirements, and consume the exposed APIs and events.

Each platform section explains:

  • how to add the SDK to your project
  • how to configure required permissions and system capabilities
  • how to use the SDK APIs and react to runtime events

Platform-specific behavior (such as permission handling and lifecycle constraints) is documented separately for iOS, Android, and React Native & Expo where relevant.
